Who are we?
Star Student is run by Mary Brennan (our London-based Head Teacher) and co-founder Michelle Mercer, with the support of our teaching staff and a professional panel of teaching experts. Waterstone's supports Star Student. Having evaluated us, Waterstone's is pleased to offer a free £20 gift voucher to any parents who sign up to our quarterly membership.
Our origins
We founded Star Student on the belief that the best way to enhance learning outside the classroom is through regular, structured interaction between you and your child, finding learning opportunities in everyday activities (many of them fun!).
And we’re not alone in that belief: a recent government study* showed that 97% of primary parents agree that “parents getting involved with their child’s learning is important for them doing well”.
Our inspiration
A few parents resort to hiring in personal tutors, at great expense. Others turn to after-school, Japanese-style programmes in which children learn maths and Literacy routines, parrot-fashion. But most of us want to be more hands-on and, ideally, want an approach that instils a lifelong love of learning.
And that’s what inspired Star Student. We’ve designed our programme to put you and your child centre stage, while we support you behind the scenes with professionalism, experience and the right tools for the job.
